Joey Gallo: Redhook Mobster

Earlier this year in May we went on a walking tour with the author of Mad Ones; Tom Folsom. We learned much about the underground king pin that was Joey Gallo and his gang. From the 1940s through the 1960s Redhook, Brooklyn was his mafia playground. You can listen to Tom Folsom talk in more detail about the Redhook days on this NPR program.

Back before The Mad Ones in 1969 Jimmy Breslin got the idea to write about Gallo’s and the gang wars in a book. This book then became a movie that Jerry Orbach played in called The Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight.
