The New Victorians Musician Feature: Charlie Poole

Musician Feature: Charlie Poole

With the new project by Loudon Wainwright III entitled High Wide & Handsome making its media rounds we wanted to highlight the artist Charlie Poole. He was the leader of the North Carolina Ramblers in the 1920’s and 1930’s. As Wikipedia states, he was a “fast living and hard drinking man”. When he was not drinking or playing his banjo he was a mill worker and semi-pro baseball player. After recording many hits for Columbia Records, Poole’s life ended early due to a 13-week drinking session. He was 39 years old.

Update: Found an WNYC Article and Broadcast on this topic from yesterday.
